Schick Cartage and Construction have begun work on replacing the rusty broken gabion cages at Puriri Park with 60cm paddock boulders. The contractors began work in early November. Puriri St residents have commented that the contractors seemed surprised that the Aro Aro surge means that one moment the estuary would be dry and the next full of water. With a  red alert high tide period commencing on 25th November, the contractors will find the time they can work will reduce during the coming days. High tides in the middle of the day during this week may also slow down the work.

Waikato District Council identified the work as a priority in 2012.
