Work is underway on a new water main along Norrie Avenue. Over the last few days a trench has been dug for the pipe and lengths of the pipe have been welded into longer lengths ready for installation in the trench.
The work on Norrie Ave is part of a water main renewals package, which Waikato District Council has been let to HEB Construction Limited, and is the result of an ongoing pipe renewal programme approved as part of the LTP in 2012. The approved contract sum for this work is $360,951.00.
The Norrie Ave part of the package will include the following length and type of pipe:
- 98 metres of 63mm MDPE ridermain
- 731 metres of 150mm OPVC main
- 617 metres of 315mm PE bulkmain.
WDC General Manager Service Delivery Tim Harty said, “The pipe in Norrie Ave has been identified as requiring replacement due to its age and material. it was installed in the 1950’s and is made of asbestos cement pipe. It will be replaced with a combination of PE and PVC pipe, as per industry standards.
This project is not only about replacing the existing pipe, but about making improvements to the operation of the water supply network. This contributes to enhanced reliability and quality of service for the community, as well as improving the fire fighting capability of the system.”
The works are expected to be completed by the end of June 2014.
