Pouring concrete for the new sea wall

Over the last few weeks work has involved prepping and pouring concrete for the seawall, the kerb on the eastern walkway, and the kayak ramp and stairs.
With the concreting work complete, the focus is now on the final surface finishes, like laying the asphalt on the walkway. This will take another week to complete.

Handy new rails

New handrails to replace the existing ones on Dolphin Pier and the eastern and western sides of the wharf have been delivered ready for installation.
Each section of handrail paneling will be installed progressively, with multiple crews working on the wharf in several areas. The Dolphin Pier is temporarily closed while this is down, and the edge of the wharf is cordoned off. This will be completed and the Dolphin Pier reopened, in mid-June.

Let there be lights
Solar-power lights are expected to arrive in late May/ early June, which will be installed along the gangway and pontoon (see image below). Installation will take around a week.

Boat ramp closure

WDC says they’re looking forward to officially opening the new pontoon in mid-June alongside our Mana Whenua partners. While this is done, the boat ramp will be closed for around one-two hours from 7am – 9am on June 16, 2023. Traffic management will be in place during this time to redirect vehicles. WDC apologise for the inconvenience.
