Five open studios over 2013 Anniversary Weekend – it was fantastic to be able to visit, Sam Mathers studio see his latest artworks and hear about his stellar career so far. On to Jane Galloway and Stuart Mackenzie and Julian in Nihinihi Ave, new techniques from Jane and stunning art from Julian, super shots from Stuart. Next stop was the new sculpture at Te Kopua Domain, it took awhile to find it as this beautiful stone sculpture which takes up a carspace in the middle of a carpark, which seemed a bit of an insult to creativity.
Cross Street Studeo, was engaging with stories behind the art and a look into the workshop. Last on this tour of 5 artists only was the Hello Gallery in Bankart Street, an inspirational group of young, qualified and enthusiastic arts in many mediums.
Although the Weekends Open Trail was short and not well adverstised it was absolutely delightful. We are so lucky in Raglan to be surrounded by living and producing artists.
There are two sculptures going at Te Kopua. They will be positioned on either side of the entrance road to the Holiday Park. One sculptor is still working on his one. When they are both completed and finally positioned there will be an opening. They are not going in a car park.
