Wharf working group to hold urgent meeting

The Raglan Community Board committee looking at the Wharf improvement project is to have an urgent meeting on Wednesday 4th November at 10:30am in the Town Hall Supper Room.

Chair of the Raglan Community Board, Gabrielle Parson, said, “The meeting is to review the Risk Assessment report that was recently done by BECA. At this stage this document is being shared with the working group and stakeholder distribution list only. As such we ask that this isn’t circulated more widely without prior discussion with Dennis Amore or myself.”

A Facebook post on the Raglan Noticeboard said, “WDC have locked the gate on the west side of wharf at 6.30pm on Friday evening and banned all vehicles from wharf, due to a report from the N.Plymouth company that did the new fenders. They stated that the piles are extremely worn. -affects Raglan Fish, who can’t bring trucks onto wharf to unload fish, Tony Sly Pottery who can’t receive deliveries, the 3 trawlers and Coastguard who require a fuel truck. WDC allowed a partial opening of gate on weekend so customers for Wharf Espresso could access. WDC have an independent engineer assessing the issue on Tuesday.”

After the 2011 repair work on Raglan Wharf costing $635,096 , WDC said, “The Raglan Wharf is now as strong as it was when it was built in 1916. Repairs to the underlying wharf structure were completed last week on time and below the original budget. The contractor, HEB Structures have completed the work to a very high standard and performed well given the change in scope and some very challenging tidal conditions.”
