Whāingaroa population moves above 8000

Recently released 2023 census data shows that the Whāingaroa population has moved above 8000 for the first time. The overall Whāingaroa area including Raglan town, Whale Bay, Te Uku and Te Akau had a population of 8286 in 2023 as shown in the table below.

Raglan Whāingaroa median income 2023 consus

Past census data for median income has shown incomes in Raglan township lower than the national pattern, with slightly higher income levels in the surrounding rural areas. In the 2023 census for the first time part of the Raglan township area shows as having a median income in the highest +$55,900 bracket. As shown on the map it is the Rangitahi area that is in the top bracket with Lorenzen Bay close behind in the $49.8K to $55.9K bracket. Most of Raglan town has a median income of less than $36.7K.

The count of people of Māori descent in the usually resident population is unchanged in Raglan Township with the 2023 count at 996, the same as in 2018. in the Whale Bay census area there was an increase from 270 in 2028 to 309 in 2023. In the Te Uku census area count of people of Māori descent moved up from 366 to 465 in 2023.
