On Saturday 12 March 2011 the Raglan Community House together with Whaingaroa Environment Centre and Xtreme Waste will come together to celebrate Whaingaroa Community and Environment Day. The day is a non-commercial day to celebrate how special and important our children are and to also celebrate Sea Week and Maui Dolphin Day and will culminate in the Xtreme Waste Recycled Raft Race.
The day will provide a full programme of free family fun kicking of with Kindy Rock followed by live music from local musicians including Jacquemo, and Twisted Timber (currently to be heard at the Orca on Friday nights), community dance groups including demonstrations of Afrocarribbean dance from Jingacat and the Latin dance exercise programme Zumba!
Other activities will include:
- Demonstration of cultural arts by Raglan community artists and art groups including Flax Weaving, bone carving and Maori visual arts.
- A demonstration by martial arts group Kiado Ryu.
- Performances from local school children.
- Sand Castle competition and sand dig run by Surfside Christian Services,
- Bouncy Castle.
- Drum circle,
- Street entertainment
- Games and competitions
- Raglan Kayaks will be on hand to give advice on building rafts
- Food stands
Information stalls with a strong community and environment and social theme including:
- Forest and Bird;
- World Wild Life Foundation;
- Department of Conservation;
- Child Youth and Family;
- Raglan Community House;
- Surfside Christian Services including the Surfside Food bank; and
- Sport Waikato
The day’s festivities will culminate in the Recycled Raft Race, an activity organised by Xtreme Waste Recycling Centre which drew the largest number of entrants to date at our 2010 event.
