Media Release: Waikato District Council, 5 October 2016
Stop/Go in place at Riverview Road, Huntly
The main slip on Huntly’s Riverview Road was unable to be cleared yesterday, but Council’s roading crews are working hard to get the job finished today, 5th October.
Stop/Go traffic management is in place as the work continues and the road will be open to the public as soon as possible.
Huntly received 90 millimetres of rain over a two hour period on Sunday, which resulted in several slips on Riverview Road.
Civil Defence Local Controller Merv Balloch said at the time it was an “extreme weather event”.
There were several slips covering part of the road which remained closed between 140 and 166 Riverview Road.
A slip did damage the back of a property at 160 Riverview Road and on the advice of a geotechnical engineer, this property is unable to be occupied until further assessments have been carried out on the slip.
There is more rain forecast this week so Council will continue to monitor the situation closely.
