Water restrictions now apply in Raglan. We are currently at Alert Level One. This means that sprinklers are only to be used during 6-8am and 6-8pm. See more information about what the water alert levels mean. ‘Water Alert’ signboards have been put up in Raglan streets.
Waikato District Council has introduced this measure even though water usage in Raglan is averaging at well under 2000 cubic metres per day and is well within the capacity of the supply system. Raglan’s water usage usually peaks in early January at over 2000 cubic metres per day when vistors swell the population of the town.
Are you referring to your 27 January article? I wonder if the $400,000 to be spent on water meters (as in today’s water committee agenda) will make any difference, or are they putting restrictions in this year so they can show how much better meters are?
Yes, earlier this year I checked what actually was happening with the water usage. My conclusion is that water restrictions are not needed in Raglan at this time. The system has the ample capability to handle the usage. Water restictions might be necessary if a pump failed or a water main sprung a leak.
We have water restrictions because Hamilton has them. The water meters are an expensive extravangance that are not needed in Raglan.
We should all try though to use less water as it cuts down the use of energy needed to run the pumps and using less energy is better for the environment. This has nothing to do with us being short of water though in Raglan.
I wonder if Raglan would prefer to have the $400,000 spent on one of the options for resealing Bow St? All except a complete rebuild come in at less than that according to the report put to yesterday’s roading committee.
