Update 5th March- A Waikato Distrcit Council advert in the Raglan Chronicle now advises that the water alert level in Raglan is now at Level 1. Meanwhile, Council’s water meter is now showing a Level 2 water alert.
Original article: Waikato District Council recently announced that it will be installing water meters in Raglan and charging for water by the litre. But this week in Raglan, Council’s main water meter seems to have gone haywire, swinging wildly from showing a red alert water crisis one day and the next day showing an abundance of water. A few weeks ago, The Raglan Website clarified Council’s confusing messages about the water situation. This time it seems that the confusion has been caused by a prankster rather than the Waikato District Council. A close inspection of the water alert sign revealed that a small brass padlock is still firmly clasped to level 2. However the pointer has had a very neat slot cut in it allowing the pointer to be moved by any passerby.
So what is the current water level? Last week’s issue of the Raglan Chronicle had an advertisement proclaiming a level 2 water alert. Meanwhile, the Waikato Times of 2nd March contains a statement from the Waikato District Council saying the water alert level is now at level 1. So it seems to be that the water level is either at level 1 or at level 2. A Council press release suggests that the water level is at level 1, but this may be just be for Hamilton and surrounding areas.
