A warm spring day on Friday 28th lured cyclists into town. And these three were taking advantage of the new bike rack next to the Raglan i-SITE. The bike rack recently installed by a WDC contractor is designed for two bikes, with the front wheels held by the giant stainless steel paper clips. But these resourceful cyclists found that their wheel bags and other luggage meant they couldn’t use it as intended. Instead they used it as leaning structure cabling their bikes to it with security cables. The bike rack is a Raglan Community Board project.
The warm spring weather is expected to continue for the weekend.
Racks holding the front wheel are the norm in Raglan, but cycle wheels can very easily be bent in them. That and cost is why many places introduced Sheffield racks several decades ago – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle_stand
The Sheffield style seems to make a lot of sense. It is how the new Raglan one is being used anyway and the simple hoop style, even with a bar added, would be a lot cheaper than the stainless steel paperclip design purchased by WDC.
