Tangata Whenua have requested that a Rahui (a prohibition against a particular area or activity, typically one in force temporarily) be placed on Wainamu Beach (also known as Ocean Beach, Suckers Point or the Kite Beach) from the green toilets south to the point Kakariki (Elephant Rock).

Waikato District Council support the Rahui and have closed Wainamu Beach, the Rahui will be lifted on Friday 18th January 2019.

Kite surfers and other water users, please enter the water on the eastward side of the toilet block.

Walking is permitted.

The carpark at the very end of Riria Kereopa Memorial Drive will be locked this evening and will not be open again until next Friday 18th January.

Safe swimming areas are at Ngarunui Beach, which is patrolled, at Papahua Domain (Te Kopua) and in the calmer waters of the inner harbour. Please be safe and mindful of the power of our moana when swimming.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me on 0211 798 256 or Mike Edmonds (Team Leader of Raglan WDC Office/ Library) on 0276737827.
