Waikato Mayor lifts vote to 11%

Waikato Mayor Allan Sanson reelected

With the provisional results announced in the 2016 local body elections, Waikato Mayor Allan Sanson has lifted his vote to 11% from the 10% he got back in 2013. This slim vote of 4876 was still enough to get him reelected with challenger Wally Hayes coming in on 3423 votes.

Waikato District has once  again had a very low voter turn out with 30.7% voting, slightly up on the 29% recorded in 2013. The official results are announced after all special votes have been validated and counted. The official results will be announced on 13 October 2016.

For the Waikato Regional Council, Raglanite Fred Lichtwark has missed out on his bid for the council coming in third with 4041 votes. The Waikato General members are Jennie HAYMAN (4665 votes) and Tony ARMSTRONG (4110 votes). In the Ngā Hau E Whā Māori constituency, Tipa MAHUTA was elected ( 2169 votes.)

For Raglan the ward councillor position, sole candidate is Lisa Thomson is confirmed elected.  In the Raglan Community Board election, Lisa came in with 739 votes (20% of voters). Other top scorers were PJ HAWORTH (627 votes), Rangi KEREOPA (653 votes) and Bob MACLEOD (637 votes). Tony OOSTEN received 444 votes, Gabrielle PARSON 543 and Alan VINK 342. While the provisional results show Alan as not elected to the Board, with Lisa being automatically on the Board in her ward councillor role, Alan VINK will be on the Board. The Board members will now meet and decide on who will be the new Chairperson.

Progress results have not been released yet for the Waikato District Health Board.
