Waikato District Council takes step back on Coastal Subdivision Policy

Earlier this year, Waikato District Council took an embarrassing step back when it withdrew Variation 15, the proposed Raglan Town Plan. Last week it had to withdraw a key notification about Variation 16, the proposed changes for subdivision requirements for coastal and rural land. Council CEO Gavin Ion said, “The reasons for the withdrawal of the Notification are that, submission points were omitted from the Summary and that the numbering of the Summary of Decisions Requested did not follow a logical order.”

The withdrawal came only one day after WDC’s Strategy & Finance Committee had appointed a Hearings Committee including Deputy Mayor Dynes Fulton and Raglan Councillor Clint Baddeley onto a committee to hear the submissions.  The proposed changes impact on the coastal and rural areas around Raglan where subdivisions are being planned.

WDC’s full press release follows:

Proposed Waikato District Plan – Withdrawal of Notification – Variation 16

Withdrawal of Notification of Summary of Submissions
Variation 16: District Wide Growth and Rural and Coastal Subdivision

The Waikato District Council hereby gives notice of the withdrawal of the Summary of Submissions for Variation 16: District Wide Growth and Rural and Coastal Subdivision.

The reasons for the withdrawal of the Notification are as follows:
• Submission points omitted from the Summary
• Numbering of the Summary of Decisions Requested did not follow logical order.

Further submissions that have already been lodged with Council do not need to be lodged again.

The Council will re-notify the Summary shortly, with a new closing date for Further Submissions.
