Waikato District Council says, “Have your say on our Draft 2024/25 Annual Plan

The consultation period on the draft 2024/25 Annual Plan for Raglan and other parts of the Waikato District is now open for feedback.

The Draft 2024/25 Annual Plan in a nutshell

At the start of 2024, WDC decided to accept a one-off offer from the Government to pause work on the 2024-2034 Long Term Plan (LTP) and instead focus on creating a 2024/25 Annual Plan.

The decision to defer the 2024-2034 LTP was made with communities in mind. WDC says they’re committed to enhancing community wellbeing and building a stronger future together. They remain focused on their vision of creating liveable, thriving, and connected communities, by funding and delivering core services and infrastructure. They have gone through budgets with a fine-toothed comb to identify areas where they can reduce spending, but still need to address significant increases in how much things now cost within this challenging economic environment.

Feedback now open

Now it’s your chance to have your say on the WDC draft 2024/25 Annual Plan. Use the submission form at this link to tell council what you think about the activities, projects, programmes, priorities, and initiatives they’re proposing over the next 12 months and beyond.

Background

In February 2024, central government provided local councils with the flexibility to develop an ‘enhanced’ Annual Plan for the 2024/25 financial year, and subsequently developing a 9-year long term plan for 2025–2034, rather than continuing with a 2024-2034 Long Term Plan. Waikato District Council has opted to take this approach.

Delivering a 2024/25 Annual Plan allows more time to gain greater certainty about the government’s next steps regarding initiatives such as ‘Local Water Done Well’ and transport priorities and funding. This also aligns planning more closely with broader government objectives.

The Plan will provide details about work programmes for the year, where resources are being allocated, and how they are responding to community wants and needs.
