Raglan classical music lovers will have an opportunity to enjoy some Italian Baroque Music later this month at the Old School Arts Centre. Waikato Baroque will be presenting a concert titled “Another String to Bow” featuring composers who were either string players or had a “second string” to their musical bow. Rodger Gallagher, Chair of the Arts Council said, “This style of music played on historical instruments is perfectly suited to the intimate heritage atmosphere of the Old School Arts Centre.”
Waikato Baroque was formed 11 years ago when Rachael Griffiths-Hughes (Harpsichord) and Martin Griffiths (Baroque Cello) moved to Hamilton. They joined local Hamiltonian Kathryn Orbell (Baroque Flute) in forming the group which performs on historical instruments. On Saturday 21st of May you can hear the core group perform a concert of Italian Baroque music by composers including Vivaldi, Marcello, Boccherini, Platti & Cervetto. The music covers a chronological span of approximately 60 years from the 1690’s and is characterised by elegant tuneful melodies, driven by strong harmonic bass lines.
This will be Waikato Baroque’s first foray out to Raglan and you can catch the group on Saturday the 21st May at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre – Stewart St, at 2pm. Door sales: $15 Adult; $10 concession; children free.
