Visitor overload makes parking tight in Raglan

The huge influx of visitors into Raglan since Boxing Day has made it tight for people wanting to park their vehicle in Bow St.  And to avoid walking a few hundred metres some have been using Bow Street’s central median strip as an extra parking area. While a parking survey a few years ago counted hundreds of spaces around Raglan, it seems that on peak days, there isn’t enough so drivers are left with little option but to park on the grass verges.

Last year, Bow Street’s median strip was described by Community Space’s guru David Engwicht as Raglan’s most under utilised asset.  He obviously hadn’t been in Raglan on a busy summer day and seen it put to use as a car park!

While the Waikato Council’s Long Term Plan does show the provision of more parking spaces, that work is some years away.
