Concerned about global warming? Want to cut down what you add to it? Raglan Vegan Feasts have now been running for 5 years.
The next is 6.30pm on Saturday 25 August at Lorenzen Bay. It’s a great opportunity to discover the variety of foods which are vegan.
Some at the feasts are always vegan, some just like to cut down on the animal products they use. The global warming from eating a kilo of beef is about the same as using 10 litres of petrol. The environmental case for cutting down on animal products is summarised in this graph from an EWG report.
Similarly, a 2010 United Nations report said,
“Animal products cause more damage than construction minerals such as sand or cement, plastics or metals. Biomass and crops for animals are as damaging as fossil fuels. Impacts from agriculture are expected to increase substantially due to population growth increasing consumption of animal products. Unlike fossil fuels, it is difficult to look for alternatives: people have to eat. A substantial reduction of impacts would only be possible with a substantial worldwide diet change, away from animal products.”
