Utopia at Combined Artists Gallery

My Utopia by Paul Hartigan

Auckland artist Paul Hartigan has produced a new body of photographic prints for this unique show in Raglan.  Paul Hartigan’s popular reputation was built up around his neon sculptures but, in addition to being a painter and printmaker, he has developed a significant body of work which is photo-based.  His new prints are from a series of multiple exposure images.

Paul’s successful career as a fulltime artist, tutor, and lecturer has made him an important figure in the contemporary art movement in New Zealand.  He has an extensive history of solo and group shows, public commissions, awards, and his work is represented in public and private collections in New Zealand and overseas.

Paul was one of the influencial tutors of mine while I studied at Elam School of Fine Art (1993-1996).  I have kept in contact with Paul throughout my career as an artist, and called on him for advice and direction regarding my work during these years.  So with great respect and interest that I am able to host a show of Paul’s new work at the Artist-Run-Gallery that I am now curator of.
