While Waikato District Council has been clear about its traffic diversion while Wainui Road is closed for the stormwater culvert to be installed, other information about the impact of the work has been a surprise.
One surprise was that the Council has banned vehicles stopping or parking on both sides of Gilmour Street. Concrete trucks were amongst the first to break this ban as they queued last week to deliver concrete to building projects in Gilmour Street.
Another surprise was that over half of the carpark next to the Fire Station is being used as a base by the contractor undertaking the project. The closure of this carpark, one of the few still available for all day parking, has meant that the many parked cars have had to move to outside the Union Church in Stewart Street. Raglan Ramblers normally depart for their rambles from the Fire Station carpark. With most of the car park blocked off, Raglan Ramblers have moved their meet up and departure spot to near the corner of James and John streets.
