I was lucky enough last night to be asked along to the preview night for ULO’s Kitchen at 6 Wallis Street next to the Herbal Dispensary. After closing their pop-up kitchen at the Old School Arts Centre in November, Yuko and Eriko Shirai and family have been busy working on giving 6 Wallis Street the ULO’s look and feel. The restaurant will open to the public on Saturday 21st and will then be open Tuesday to Saturday. (On Sundays you can find them at the YOT Club’s Sunday Sessions.)
The new restaurant has the amazing ULO’s art creations on signs, seats, tables and walls creating a cosy feel. The new menu will have some old favourites as well as new ones for dine-in patrons. One new addition will be a DIY sushi platter with a selection of sashimi, cooked fish, dressings, vegetables and rice along with nori to wrap it in.
ULO’s joins the growing list of Raglan businesses who have used the commercial kitchen at the Old School Arts Centre as the incubator to get their business started. With their combination of great art, tasty food, good service at the right price they will continue to have a successful business.
