A traffic incident involving a motorcyclist occurred this afternoon (5 Feb) at the intersection of Lorenzen Bay Rd and State Highway 23. This saw the vehicle flow on SH 23 held up with a west bound queue building up to over one kilometre. School children on the bus got off and started walking to get past the holdup. Lorenzen Bay Road’s link to SH 23 was closed for a time.
The incident occurred at about 3.45pm. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter flew from Hamilton arriving on the scene at about 4.15pm and then took off at 4.45pm flying the injured motorcyclist to Waikato Hospital. The pillion passenger was not badly injured. Raglan Volunteer Fire Fighters and Raglan Ambulance attended along with the Police. The Fire Fighters prepared the landing site next to SH 23 for the helicopter.
Traffic flow was almost back to normal by 5pm.
