The other Left Hand Break

You’ll need to enter the Raglan Club and take a short walk to the rear left inside the building to find the Left Hand Break restuarant

Part way through 2014, the Raglan Club moved from a contractor running its kitchen to running this service itself. As part of the relaunch a competition was held to come up with a name for the restaurant. The name selected was Left Hand Break after the famous surf break at Manu Bay. The new restaurant operation had a few issues in its early days. With a smooth operation now in place under the care of Chef  Lu-Anne (Lulu) I thought it was time for a review.

Our Club quiz team had won again so we thought it was time to spend the winnings on a celebration. Most of the guys ordered the scotch fillet steak: “Scotch fillet steak grilled to your liking served on a rustic potato mash w/ seasonal veges OR with fries and salad with your choice of mushroom or garlic butter sauce $23”. Mine was delivered to the table cooked perfectly as requested done medium rare. I had the fries and salad plus the mushroom sauce. The fries were done just right and the salad was a fresh garden salad. The mushroom sauce included mushrooms. All in all a very well presented steak meal at a great price. The Club has a range of wines available and I had a glass of Riverlands Cabernet Shiraz which at $6 is the best value in Raglan.

There are seven other options on the menu including fish and chips and a veggie stack and feedback for other diners is that these are equally good.

Left Hand Break is located to the left rear of the Club building with entry through the main doors at the front of Raglan Club. The ambience is typical ‘club’ decor with formica tables. There is an outside seating area.

Overall on Value for Money I gave Left Hand Break an Eight out of Ten for a well cooked, tasty and well presented meal plus good service.

It is well worth the short walk from Bow St through the Club to the back of the building. If you want to buy a drink then you’ll need to be signed in as a guest.
