Telecom moves back to old broadband equipment

The bungled upgrade of Raglan broadband customers in mid-December is still playing out.  Earlier this week a few customers were still without service.   Bach owners arriving in Raglan for the holiday period found that their broadband equipment no longer worked.   It appears that Telecom has now accepted that its ‘upgraded’ equipment will not work for broadband customers in the Greenslade Rd and Upper Wainui Roads of Raglan.  Telecom has moved these customers back onto the old equipment along with other broadband users like the Old School Arts Centre who have incompatible equipment.

Although Telecom Wholesale claimed that only 10 broadband users were effected, investigations by the Raglan Website and the Raglan Chronicle revealed a larger problem.  And it has taken almost a month after the initial problem for service to be restored in some cases.

information received indicates that the new faster speed broadband service will only be available in the Greenslade Rd and Upper Wainui Rd areas after new cabinets are installed in those areas.   Whale Bay is not affected as it is already served by a cabinet.
