Te Uku Hall celebrates 50 years

50 years for Te Uku Hall

Te Uku Memorial Hall is celebrating 50 years of the current hall and 99 years since the original Te Uku hall was built.

An afternoon tea will be held for all past and present persons and organisations who have used the facility to come together for a celebratory afternoon tea and sharing of memories, commencing at 1.30pm, 24th November.

The original Te Uku war memorial hall was built in 1919. It later became borer-ridden and was replaced. Two memorial tablets hang in the hall. The Te Uku District Roll of Honour 1914 – 1918 lists the names of 30 local men who served, seven of whom were killed. The Te Uku and District Roll of Active Service 1939 – 1945 lists the names and ranks of six men who were killed on active service and 27 men who also served.
