From Friday 17th September to Sunday 19th, surges have been pounding Manu Bay, Raglan driven by strong westerly winds. As surfers are absent, visitors to Manu Bay have been entertained by watching the turbulent waves.
At Manu Bay, two Raglan surf lifesavers had to be rescued by other lifesavers, after they decided to train in dangerous six metre swells on Satuday afternoon. The men fell from their inflatable boat, became caught in a rip and then had to be rescued. Raglan Surf Life Saving Club president Anne Snowden said, “We do not train in such bad weather and both men had been spoken to about their decision”.
And at Whale Bay, the wave action has created a foam which has coated the rocks on the beach, so it looks as if it has just snowed.
The westerly winds over the North Island is forecast to strengthen again during Monday as a cold front moves quickly north over the South Island.
