After a blessing and karakia by kaumatua Sean Ellinson, the Raglan Cross-Fit-Athon got underway at 10am on Saturday 19th. Based in the front car park of the Raglan Club, the event supported 16-year old Te Huringa “Boy” Whitiora in his attempt to fund raise his way to the World Crossfit Teens Gauntlet 2014.
The event kept up a hectic pace during the day with Chef de Jour Dave Currie encouraging competitors as they completed their exercise sets.
This was a new event in town a the first ever cross fit challange. The challange was oragnised as a fundraiser for local lad Te Huringa Whitiora who is currently ranked 2nd in the world for under 18 year olds and is heading off to the world crossfit games in California later this week.
The challenge was taken up by the local rugby club, the firefighters, a team from Hamilton and Waka Ama, many of whom looked decidely unwell after the challenge and none of whom were able to come close to the standard set by the young man.
Organisers say that on the day $3500 was raised including pledges with a generous person promising to make up the rest of the $5000 needed.
Fantastic! We wish Te Huringa Whitiora well in the USA.
