Success trapping stoats on Karioi

Last month A Rocha Aoteroa cleared the 50 stoat traps deployed across Mount Karioi in September for the first time ever…

And – caught 4 stoats! – and some rats too (6).

Due to a few unexpected delays they have not got their online sign up ready for checking traps each month! 🙁 sorry.

There are two weekends scheduled each month for checking trap lines and the dates are:

  27 Nov

17 – 24 Dec

21 – 29 Jan

18 – 26 Feb

17 – 25 March

21 – 29 April

 

This is the set up

STOAT TRAP CHECKING OPTIONS-

1. Check traps on your way UP the mountain and come DOWN the SAME side again (leave from Te Toto or Ruapuke side)
or
2. Traverse across the WHOLE mountain (means you have to arrange transport and a pick up OR swap keys with others going across the other way).

You can choose to complete the whole line (1-50) or half the line (1-25) or (26-50) – fill in YOUR IDEAL OPTION below and send back to me to coordinate/hook up people that are keen etc…

YOUR HEALTH AND SAFETY

Please always let someone know when you are going up the mountain
Preferably go in pairs or more
Take food, drinks, appropriate gear and footwear for any conditions.
Let someone know when you have arrived back safely.
Handle traps carefully & maintain the trap log book
