STOAT TRAPS ON KARIOI MAUNGA IN SEPTEMBER

ITS FANTASTIC!

LIKELY YOU’VE BEEN MEANING TO CLIMB KARIOI FOREVER – AND NEVER GOT TO IT?

THIS IS YOUR CHANCE!!

The Karioi Biodiversity Restoration project is a community led project, run in partnership with Te Whakaoranga O Karioi, A Rocha Aotearoa New Zealand, the Department of Conservation and the Whaingaroa Community.

On Saturday we will co-ordinate the deployment of 52 stoat traps across the mountains main track from Te Toto Gorge (Karioi Track) to Ruapuke Rd (Wairake Track) – weather permitting – these will be checked monthly by volunteers

(Sunday is the back-up deployment day).
when: Saturday September 3rd

meet: 8 am

where: 240 Maungatawhiri Rd (large barn on right side of road)
bring: warm clothes & good shoes, food & water for the day – a large backpack for your trap! (400×250)

logistics: there will be groups starting at both ends of the track across the mountain – providing easier and more challenging grades and distance to choose from – option to traverse across or go up and down again.

Carpooling and help with transport would be appreciated.

If you would like to be a part of this day or on the team that will be scheduled to check traps during the year then we would love to hear from you!
