It is NZ National Fieldays time at Mystery Creek in the Waikato and the results are in for Fieldays BIG Little Town competition. Raglan and other Waikato regional towns play a vital role in contributing to the experience of visitors during their time at Fieldays and this is reflected in the amount of returning visitors that come back year after year. The little towns take the opportunity to be involved and promote their community to Fieldays visitors through the BIG Little Town Competition.
Several Raglan retailers have joined into the spirit of Fieldays in 2011 by taking part in the Big Little Town Retailer’s Window Dressing Competition.
Window displays featuring a range of farming themes can be seen around Raglan:
• Hay bales
• Scarecrows
• Farm style clothing (black singlet, swanndri, gumboots)
• Wheelbarrows and pitchforks etc
• Model cows/sheep/alpacas etc
• Old/new farm implements
• Plants, seeds etc
Each Big Little Town’s i-Site receives $800 cash in prizes for winning by the retailers, judged to have the best dressed windows. Judges looked for imagination, innovation, agricultural focus and presentation. The winning Raglan shop, Soul Shoes won a prize of $500 and Raglan Lions Op Shop, the runner-up received a prize of $250.
