From cooking through to draining of the oil took about 10 minutes. The snapper and chips was served in a rectangular cardboard carton, placed inside a brown paper bag. The deep-frying is done in canola oil.
The fish is served sprinkled with finely chopped parsley and two slices of lemon. Salt is sprinkled on prior to serving and more is available in little paper satchets if you need it. Little tubs of sauce tartare and tomato sauce are available for purchase as extras. The chips are of the bulk frozen type cut to 1 cm square. The fish is cooked in batter made to a Raglan Fish secret recipe.
The fresh West Coast snapper was beautifully cooked with a light crisp batter. The chips were adequately, but could have been cooked a little more. I found that the quantity of chips was far too large for one person.
Overall on Value for Money I gave Raglan Fish a Seven out of Ten for its Snapper Meal Deal – a well cooked take away meal and pleasant service. If the quantity of chips had have been a little less, I would have given then an Eight. And of course the price of meal deals and the type of fish changes on a daily basis with what is available. Some days, when it is on offer, the snapper meal deal is $12.50. Definitely worth going back for and if you don’t want the meal deal, then there are plenty of alternatives on offer.
