“There is a long list of people waiting for rental properties in Raglan”, says Ray White Raglan proprietor Julie Hanna. She added, “This time of year the agency usually has 10 to 20 rental listings, but currently the company has zero.”
A check of the Trade Me Property website on Sunday 14th, showed just one rental available in Raglan while over at realestate.co.nz, only holiday properties were showing availability.
Raglan, Ray White property manager Russ Adams said, “For the past two years, the rental market has been tight and continues to get tighter. In past years every winter, Raglan would empty out, but now we’re running out of houses. Last year we ran out in August, this year it was June. That’s the first time that’s happened. It’s not really seasonal any more.”
The Waikato Times reports that some are saying the property purge is due to investors renting to holidaymakers for an inflated price.
