State Highway 23 is closed between Raglan and Whatawhata after a truck rolled at approximately 7am this morning.
The truck was carrying cattle stock and the road will be closed while a vet assesses the animals and the crash scene is cleared.
Some of the cows were thrown from the trailer unit when it overturned on State Highway 23 near the divy, Senior Sergeant Pete van de Wetering of Waikato police said.
“We don’t know the condition of all the cattle – a number have been killed,” he added. “It is a pretty concerning crash and will be gruesome and devastating for some people to see.”
The driver was not injured in the crash.
Diversions are in place. Westbound Traffic go through Ngaruawhia to Waingaro Road to Ohautira Road. Eastbound traffic take Ohautira Road to Waingaro Road to Ngaruawhia.
