With work now underway on the replacement main sewer along Wainui Road, motorists are finding that Wainui Road is closed during working hours between Helen Place and Whitley Street. The detour route is up Stewart Street, along Norrie Avenue, and down Whitley Street to rejoin Wainui Road. A large pile of the new pipes is being stored in Petchell Park so it would be a good idea to avoid using the Park at the moment as with the pipes, the new toilet and the Museum project there isn’t much park left!
The project known as the ‘Nero Street Wastewater Rising Main Renewal’ will run from just behind the Coast Guard Shed at the end of Wi Neera Street to Wainui Road, then along Wainui Road in front of the museum site, crossing over at Helen Place, then continuing along Wainui Road and the Opotoru Bridge, then crossing into Marine Parade, where it will join up with the existing main sewer. It is expected that the project will be completed by the 30th March 2011. HEB Construction are building the new sewer for Waikato District Council at a cost of $450,952.
