The next Board meeting is Tuesday 9 September at 6pm in the Town Hall Supper Room. The public forum starts at 5.30pm, giving an opportunity to discuss issues, but you can also contact the Community Board members.

1. Iwi liaison – report on 2012 MoU with Nga Uri o Maahanga, 2013 hui at Poihakena Marae, and huis on Whaanga roading and sewage, resource consents, Matariki and the campground committee.
2. Long Term Plan priorities – 4/9 workshop set 10 priorities – footpaths/cycleways, town hall toilets, swimming pool, Stewart/Gilmour St, Cliff St shared space, buses.
3. 161 Battery Freedom of the City Bow St to be closed 10.30-12 on Sat 11 Oct and RCB asked to pay $1,000.
4. Waingaro Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce wants a business plan. Infrastructure agenda said, “Council officers and contractors have visited Waingaro Hot Springs and served a stop works notice to the lessees as well as re-erecting and securing fences and dangerous building signs which had been removed from around dangerous structures. Council legal officers are working on an application to the High Court to re-enter the lease.”

6. Riki Spring water treatment works to be finished September (was June).
7. Sewage 7 tasks listed with progress reports and target dates.
8. Whaanga Coast sewage 17/9 deadline to join scheme.
9. Customer Report Management – in the last year, only 3 of 9 flooding problems were dealt with within target time, and 3 of 4 dangerous dog reports.
10. Simon Rd footpath being built.
11. Wharf pontoon – meeting Raglan Engineering about repair of 3 piles.
12. Heated Swimming Pool and Manu Bay boat ramp – reports for next meeting (Dec).
13. Footbridge signs to be completed by mid November.
14. Briefing on Local Government Amendment Act – switching burden of development costs from developers to ratepayers, more council controlled organisations owned by several councils, simplified consultation on annual plans, attendance of councillors at meetings by video, etc
15. Discretionary fund has $19,041. 5pm Fri 10/10 is the next deadline for applications.
16. Kopua Holiday Park annual report – visitors up 9%, $½m in multi sports hall fund, heritage trail on hold pending use of iwi photos, $60,000 for new studio unit in 2014/15.
At the Long Term Plan workshop mention was made that a local farmer is putting together a resource consent application to build a carpark to the west of the wharf by filling in that part of the harbour. Should WED do anything about it and, if so, when and what?
Waikato District Council has decided to keep First Past the Post polling for its 2016 election. Electors have a right to demand a poll at any time, but need to get 2,106 signatures by 28 Feb, for a poll on the STV alternative to be held by 21 May. Would you sign a poll? Would you get others to? STV would waste fewer votes and produce a more representative council. For example, in 2009 the current mayor got 5621 votes, Clint Baddeley 4522 and Frank McInally 2378. If those 2378 votes had been divided between the first 2, would the result have been the same?
There’s also a chance to meet Green candidate, Robert Moore, at Raglan Club on Wednesday 10 from 5pm in an informal mix and mingle for 2 or 3 hours.
Remember to vote! Advance voting (no reason needed) can be done any working day from Monday 10-4 at the council office.
If you planned to go to the Residents & Ratepayers AGM on Sat 6, it’s been postponed for about 3 weeks and will be advertised in the Chronicle.
