Mayoral and other candidates will be up in front of the Raglan community at a community meeting on September 17th in the Raglan Town Hall. Hosted by Raglan Residents & Ratepayers Association, candidates in the upcoming Local Body Elections have been invited along so they can let Raglanites see them in action.
This meeting to be held in the Raglan Town Hall is planned to start at 10.00am to about 12.30pm, on Saturday, September 17th 2016.
The meeting aims to help the public choose an incoming Mayor, Ward Councillor and Community Board members who are people who have a passion for our town, our community, and its surrounding environs.
Bob MacLeod, President of Raglan Residents & Ratepayers says, “It will give candidates an opportunity to present their thoughts and ideas to the public. They’ll be able to answer any questions put to them concerning local issues. We will accept written questions for the Mayoral candidates.”
The format will be as follows:
- Community Board Candidates each will have 3 minutes to outline why people should vote for them.
- The Ward Councillor Candidate will have 2 minutes to outline her goals and aspirations for Raglan.
- Mayoral Candidates each will have 3 minutes to outline why people should vote for them. And then have two more minutes to answer any person specific questions.
- The floor will then be opened for general questions or if any specific questions have been received then these can be answered.
As it appears that there may not be a need for voting for the Ward Councillor, greater emphasis will be placed on the Mayoral candidates and the question and answer time slot.
Nothing about Regional Council (Harbour Care’s Fred Lichtwark is standing), or District Health Board?
While the District Council candidates are much higher profile, Regional Councillors are also important for Raglan/Whaingaroa. As a candidate for the latter, I am happy to attend if you wish. Jennie Hayman, candidate for Waikato Regional Council.
It’s a great shame that the Waikato Regional Council – Waikato area candidates have not been invited. This would be a great opportunity to find out what they are all about.
The good news is that WRC and DHB candidates are now being invited. Will be interesting to hear about fluoride from DHB candidates, who are getting the power to decide on fluoride in our water from about 2018.
