Sep 15-23: Ninth year for Raglan Film Festival and the Raglan Arts Film Festival Awards

A wide selection of thought-provoking, inspiring and entertaining movies from around the world are on screen from Friday 15th September at the 2017 Raglan Film Festival.

The annual festival returning for the ninth time, is on from 15-23 September at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre in Stewart Street.  For further details about each movie showing at the festival, plus the Raglan Arts Film Festival (RAFFA) screenings, pick up copies of the official Film Festival leaflet and brochure, available at the Old School and various outlets around town.

Leanna and Dan- Steps, Stairs, Stairwells
An extra bonus on the opening night is the film by Raglanite Ray Diprose, “Leanna and Dan- Steps, Stairs, Stairwells”

Whaingaroa homegrown talent is on screen throughout the festival, with extracts from RAFFA-nominee films screened ahead of main feature films. Covering a diverse array of topics and genres, these include: Bag it Raglan by Pedro Cordova, about producing reusable fabric bags for local residents; Paws a While, by Zara Beeby about the work of an animal rescue centre; and Chooked Up, a drama by Leila-Rose Skeates about a group of detectives investigating the death of a chicken.

The festival opens on Friday 15 September with Haka and Guitars, a multi-award winning New Zealand documentary about Operation Belisi, modern history’s most successful peacekeeping mission.

A troubled town is plunged into chaos when a boy accidentally makes a new friend in My Pet Dinosaur, an imaginative action adventure suitable for the whole family.

Raoul Peck’s outstanding Oscar-nominated documentary, I Am Not Your Negro, narrated by Samuel L Jackson, presents an astonishing and challenging examination of race in the USA.

Gardeners and artists alike won’t want to miss The Artist’s Garden, which tells the story of the American Impressionist movement.

Lords of Dogtown follows the ‘Z-Boys’ skate team in Venice, California. Based on a true story, this film follows ‘Z-Boys’ skate team as they revolutionize competitions with a more aggressive form of skateboarding, propelling three of them into stardom but shredding their friendships.
