Sad little bark patch still being fouled by dogs

Bark patch next to the Plunket Rooms community water fountain

The Raglan Chronicle issue of 20th February reported that the Waikato District Council will be moving to a positive approach for its dealings with Community Boards. This is a welcome move that I am sure all Raglanders will support.

I look forward to even more achievements as this fresh approach is introduced. With anything new it is always a good idea to get some runs on the board fairly quickly. Completing one small community board project would let Raglan see that Waikato District Council is ‘walking the talk’.

A project they might consider is concreting the bark patch by the Plunket Rooms. Last year Community Board Member Linda Cole pointed out that dogs were fouling the bark patch around the water fountain that had just been installed near the Plunket Rooms. The Board passed a resolution recommending that the bark be replaced with concrete. GM Tony Whittaker reported back at following meetings that the work would be carried out.

When I checked on Friday 21st, this work had not been done. Dogs were still fouling the bark patch, near a community water fountain even though it is in the Bow St dog exclusion zone.

Concreting around the water fountain would cost $500 if a Raglan tradesperson did it. Perhaps $2,000 if a tradesperson was sent from Ngaruawahia. Either way a small amount of money out of the Council budget.

Council needs to complete this small project, then celebrate that success. It would be a good start to moving to a more positive approach for its dealings with the Raglan Community Board.

    1. I have chatted to the Animal Control Officer and yes he does visit Bow St from time-to-time to police the bylaw. But he is not there that often and last weekend, like most weekend there were many dogs in Bow St.
