Rules for Raglan reserves being updated – controls on drone usage and vaping being looked at

New rules proposed for reserves

Waikato District Council is reviewing its General Policies Reserves Management Policy (RMP) that includes the rules on Raglan parks and reserves. The Council says it needs to be reviewed every ten years and Waikato District Council is now wanting feedback on proposed changes. Controls on drone usage and vaping are being look at.

In May 2022 WDC asked the community for their ideas and suggestions about what they wanted to see in the RMP. The Council says they considered all suggestions carefully, and where possible included these in the new draft RMP.

Key changes include:

  • A new Reserve Values section including:
  • Relationship with Mana Whenua
  • Relationship with volunteers
  • Climate change, fire risk and natural hazards
  • Sustainable practices
  • Inclusion of new technology, such as drones and vapes
  • Update to the Reserve Naming process
  • Update to the Authorisation and Approvals section (e.g. leases and licences).

WDC are now seeking further feedback to make sure we’ve got this right. All submissions made on the draft RMP will be presented to Council and there will be an opportunity to speak to your submission if you wish.

You can give your feedback HERE: https://shape.waikatodistrict.govt.nz/managing-our-reserves

Submissions close on 12 December.
