Waikato District Council says that work to repair Raglan’s Manu Bay seawall will start towards the end of January. Contractors Schick Cartage & Construction will be undertaking the work. Council Project Manager Hamish Cairns says that there will be an information meeting on site on the January 14th 2016 from 10.00 to 10.30am.
Council watchdog John Lawson says that he’ll be going to the meeting to ask about whether geotextile will be used to minimise damage to the foreshore. He added that at the meeting held to discuss the recent work in Puriri Park, Schick talked about their plans for that project and how they would use geotextile and fill to minimise damage to the foreshore. Instead the digger went straight in. Waikato Regional Council did nothing about that and let it go. It’ll be interesting to hear whether Schick have are any firmer assurances for Manu Bay.
Around February of 2015 the District Council expressed its intention to carry out repairs on the sea wall at Manu Bay, Raglan. During 2015 it says it has consulted with the groups who are active in the Manu Bay area, working working through the procedure to be able to undertake the repairs. Weather permitting the work is scheduled to start the week of the 25th January 2016 .A general information sign advising of the upcoming work was erected in late December 2015.
