The cattle track accident on Monday 20th demolished the crash barrier next to the Waitetuna bridge on SH 23 at the start of the divvy. temporary repairs were carried out on Monday. NZTA contractors carried out permanent repairs on Tuesday. Traffic was delayed with stop/ go traffic control in force until late afternoon.
Although NZTA declared the highway to be fully open again at 4pm, when we drove through after that, contractors were still making a few final checks. SH 23 is now fully open with the safety barrier rebuilt at Waitetuna bridge. Everything OK again for the influx of holiday traffic. Great work by NZTA and their contractors.
