Rates help for those who need it most

From WDC Mayor Jacqui

The cost of living, inflation and affordability are all messages that have been talked at length from many commentators and as the first of the rates instalment notices arrive to homeowners across the district.

I wanted to talk to you about something that could make a significant difference for many of our residents – the Rates Rebate Scheme

We all know that managing household expenses can be challenging, especially for those on a fixed or low income.

That’s why I wanted to highlight the rates rebate scheme, which offers a partial refund on the rates you pay for your home.

This initiative is designed to provide some financial relief and ensure that assistance is there.

Who can apply?

If you are the ratepayer for your property and it has been your primary residence since July 1, 2024, you might be eligible.

The property must be used mainly as a residential dwelling.

So, if you meet these criteria, I encourage you to check your eligibility by going to our Rates Rebates page on our website and clicking the ‘Apply for a Rates Rebate’ button.

How to apply?

It’s a straightforward process. First, confirm your eligibility.

Then, download and complete the application form, gather your proof of income, and submit your application to the Waikato District Council by June 30, 2025.

Our team is here to assist you every step of the way.

For those who might not qualify for the rebate but still need help, we offer flexible payment plans to spread the cost of your rates throughout the year.

Our goal is to make sure that everyone has access to the support they need.

Remember, our team is always available to help with any questions or concerns you might have.

You can reach us by phone, email, or visit our website for more information.

Let’s work together to ensure that our community remains a place where everyone can live comfortably and securely.

Ngaa mihi kind regards,
Mayor Jacqui
