Raglan’s KASM joining Hikoi “Aotearoa Is Not For Sale”

Hello all.

Firstly we want to inform you of the Hikoi “Aotearoa Is Not For Sale” which is addressing mining, deep sea oil and the sale of state owned assets.

The cause and message of this Hikoi are very much in line with the KASM message and we are getting behind it.

The Hikoi is passing through Auckland on Saturday and Hamilton on Sunday.

Auckland Saturday 28th 2pm Victoria Park

Hamilton Sunday 29th 11am at the BP North End of Town.
Raglan people should meet outside the Raglan Butchers at 9:30am for ride sharing.

Secondly we want to thank all those that stood up and participated in KASM actions during March.

We certainly sent a very clear message to mining company TTR that we are not happy with their plans to mine our seabed. We need to keep the pressure up.

The short film is very near being ready for release.

A core group of KASM members have been meeting regularly to discuss strategies for addressing the issue and a number of exciting opportunities are emerging.

Numbers are what we need so please make the effort to turn up in defense of our Marine Environment.

Many thanks.

KASM

  1. Mining company Sinosteel Australia Pty Ltd have so far tagged 3,528 hectares of Aotea, and Ruapuke coastal farmland for possible extraction via OPEN CAST MINE of iron sand. Local farmer Dave Peacocke owns the majority of this land and is complying with the mining company. The exploratory drilling machine has been working today 31st of April 2012. Thankyou to all those who signed our petition, a submission will be made to accompany the formal presentation of the petition to Waikato District Council shortly.

    1. Certainly is a worrying issue. My understanding is that once a mining exploration permit is issued by the Government, that land owners don’t have any say in the matter.
