Tuesday night saw a capacity cruise on the Wahine Moe for the Raglan Chamber of Commerce’s end of year function. Sixty Chamber members met first at the studio of Tony Sly Pottery before boarding the Wahine Moe for a sunset cruise of Raglan Harbour. Conditions were perfect with the warm sun and still evening.
The Chamber members obviously enjoyed the evening hosted by Erin Rogers and Charlie Young and the beautiful meal provided by Lynley Rogerson. Flowers for the evening were provided by Lilpot Florist.
The choice for Chamber members had either been their end-of-year cruise or the Rates Review meeting in the Town Hall Supper Room. Most Chamber members opted for the cruise. About 20 people attended the Rates Review meeting where the discussion focussed mainly on the property valuation decreases in two small areas of Raglan. Ratepayers present struggled to understand that a house could drop in value below its construction price. They appeared even more sceptical when Council staff said that the company they had engaged for the valuation was different from when the District valuation was done last. Council staff pointed out that ratepayers could lodge an objection to their valuation notice. The objection form is available at Council offices or by downloading here.
