As if saving money and making a green transport choice wasn’t enough, Raglan and Hamilton commuters who sign up to Letscarpool.govt.nz could also win tickets to singing sensation, Ed Sheeran.
The national competition, run in partnership with Hamilton City Council, celebrates Kiwi Carpool Week from 8-16 June but will run for the whole month of June.
Those who visit the Let’s Carpool Facebook page at facebook.com/letscarpoolnz and sign up to letscarpool.govt.nz will go in the draw to win two tickets to Ed Sheeran in Auckland in December, along with dinner and a ride to the concert.
Phil Consedine, Transportation Manager at Hamilton City Council, says:
“This competition provides a great incentive for people to have a go at carpooling. It makes sense to share petrol costs and reduce congestion on the roads – and you may even make a friend or two.”
Letscarpool.govt.nz allows commuters to find other carpoolers in their communities to share car trips. More than 500 members are already signed up in the Waikato, including people from Hamilton, as well as a number of smaller towns, such as Cambridge, Morrinsville, Raglan and Ngaruawahia. In Junethe website shows 10 rides typically available from Raglan to Hamilton
Popular destinations include Waikato University, Waikato Hospital, Wintec and the general CBD.
Mr Consedine urges employers to point their staff to letscarpool.govt.nz.
‘‘Carpooling is a great way of getting several employees to travel to work together – and help ease pressure on work carparks.’’
