Raglan Supermarket open on Thursday afternoon in its new SuperValue colours

After a coat of paint inside and out, along with new shelves and cash registers inside, the final touch of new signs on Thursday morning saw the Raglan Supermarket open at noon on the 23rd August under the SuperValue brand.  The SuperValue chain of supermarkets is a franchise brand of  Australian owned Progressives Enterprises who also operate Countdown supermarkets.

The Raglan Supermarket remains under the ownership of Waikato businessman Richard Jacobsen with day-to-day management by General Manager Shane Temata.

The biggest change for shoppers will be the availability of products from Countdown’s Signature and Homebrand ranges. Shane says that there will be about 3500 more lines available and says that the prices will be really competitive.

A check by the Raglan Website indicates that this is true for advertised products.  Comparing Countdown in Hamilton with SuperValue in Raglan we found:

…………………………………………… Countdown…………………….SuperValue

Meadowlea Spread…………………. $2.79 …………………………… $2.79

Canned Tomatoes…………………… $1.25 …………………………… $1.19

Bread …………………………………… $2.99 ………………………….. $2.99

So Raglan SuperValue definitely seems to be very competitive. And prices may get even more competitive with Four Square likely to be back in Raglan soon.
