Sunday buses will be back for Raglan from April 2017. When the Regional Council pulled the plug on Sunday service in April 2013, the Raglan Chamber of Commerce and Waikato District Council have been running a replacement mini bus on Sundays.

The information on the Sunday bus is buried deep in the agenda for the next meeting of the Waikato Regional Council on 20th November.

The agenda says that key service level enhancements will be implemented on satellite routes from April 2017. For Raglan these are: Introduction of additional trips on weekdays and Sundays for the Raglan to Hamilton Service, plus the provision of bike racks.

The improvements will be rolled out the implementation of new bus contracts that were tendered earlier this year. WRC say that overall service delivery costs will reduce under new contracts, meaning that they will be delivering an enhanced service for a lower overall cost.

Now that’s good news!

The Waikato Regional Council is also looking at other improvements to increase bus usage. Over the next 18 months a suite of improvements will be rolled out across the bus network that are expected to see more people use buses.

Enhancements to be applied across the entire fleet (urban and satellite services) are as follows:

  • Introduction of 41 new buses to the contracted fleet
  • Provision of free WiFi for passengers (already on Raglan bus)
  • Provision of comprehensive CCTV systems on all vehicles to help manage antisocial behaviour.
