Last night (May 10) a stunning exhibition of hard stone sculpture opened at the Raglan Museum. About 30 people attended to the opening to check out work by two local sculptors, Richard Page and Gene Pospisil. The organisers had hoped that Tai Meuli would have work on display but a last-minute change in plans saw Tai give his apologies.
Museum President Pat Day opened the exhibition saying that this was the third exhibition of local art work to be held in the museum. Richard Page then gave some commentary on his works saying that the theme of the exhibition was symmetry. Gene then described his art works.
Richard Page finished a traditional apprenticeship in the mid 1990s and since then has completed various international commissions including those for the Taiwan and the Hong Kong railway stations, along with The Gate, a public commission for Te Awamutu township. Most recently Richard completed the a large commissioned work at the entrance to the Raglan Kopua Holiday Park.
Gene Pospisil completed an apprenticeship in silversmithing and jewellery design and manufacture in 2007. In his final year and since then his work has concentrated on stone sculpture of an increasing size.
The exhibition will be on display at the museum in Wainui Road, Raglan from 10 May until 31 July. Entrance via the Raglan i-SITE.
