On Saturday morning (24.11.12), Raglan Seafoods reopened its fish processing and retail sales operation on Raglan Wharf. Two and a half years after the major fire burnt down most of the wharf buildings, Hughie was back at it again running the fish processing counter and giving the new staff some of his special tips.
With some trawlers just tied up at the wharf, the fresh fish counter was stocked with a good range of fish including some tuna. A much enlarged cooking area should be able to cater better for peak demands. And now there are tables available to sit down and eat your fish and chips. In another new addition, Raglan Seafoods can now offer espresso as well.
And the man who officially opened the wharf rebuild back in August was there once again. Self proclaimed lover of fish and chips, Waikato Mayor Allan Sanson, was at the wharf on Saturday with his family to sample what the new operation had to offer. And at the end of his meal he looked a happy man. When he couldn’t find a rubbish bin on the wharf for his fish and chip wrappings he promised to get one installed soon.
