Raglan’s roads are open again and the sun is shining. For a period on Tuesday 1st September, Raglan was isolated with roads in and out closed due to flooding or slips. Raglan Weather recorded 27mm of rain in the 24 hour period.
At 1pm on the 1st, NZTA advised that State Highway 23 was closed in both directions due to flooding near Cogswell Road. No alternative routes were recommended as they were also blocked. State Highway 23 reopened again at 2.23pm.
Cogswell Rd is a known flooding point and SH 23 has been closed before at this point. Raglan Volunteer Firefighter posted on Facebook, “ALL roads to Raglan were closed (on 1.09.15) for at least 3 hours due to flooding. A timely reminder that we may be on our own due to weather or other factors so a good time to make sure you all have some supplies at home if this ever happens and help can’t get to us. Water, food, a torch, radio are a must. Each home should have a survival kit.” That’s good advice and take special care on the roads under severe weather conditions.
